As usual our blog is here, to try and provide extra help and for new and confused customers as  moving from Windows to Linux can be a big step, and running a website for the first time. This tutorial will take you through all the necessary steps to create custom nameservers and get your site up and running.

This tutorial was written for VPSLatch customers but if it helps you too, then remember you read it here! Often the best place to start if you have an issue is Google, a simple copy and paste of most error messages will give you the solution you need in the first few, if not the first link.

VPSLatch Customers: Please note we are a Mananged VPS provider but we understand that there are times you just want to set things up yourself.  This should help if you have issues setting up nameservers at Name.com.

We are not held responsible for misconfigurations, mistakes, or errors on your behalf, but we go the extra mile for you.

First Step – Getting started

First thing we will want to-do is log into Name.com on the main page. Once you log in, please select “Account.”

Second Step – Select Domain

Once you are in the domain manager as seen above you will need to click on the domain that you want to set up custom nameservers.

Now once in this next menu, we will want to select “Nameserver Registration” on the right sidebar.

For the hostname box, fill in the prefix of your nameserver,  We suggest NS1.

Now for the IP section, if you are a shared hosting customer keep reading, this applies to you only – you will need the shared servers IP address (this should be in your confirmation email).

If you are a VPSLatch customer keep reading, this applies to you only -  you will need your servers Main IP address, this can be found in your VPS Details email or SolusVM control panel.

Now once you have done this it should like the following and you are good to press OK;

Once you have done this please repeat the step but with a new prefix, so instead of NS1 put NS2, and repeat the steps.  Then you have created ns1 and ns2 of your own domain, ready to use!

Congratulations ! You have now successfully created your own custom nameservers to give to your customers and use for yourself.

  1. I think, You also need to mention, how we can setup A entry setup in VPS hosting account? I need to know how to.

    Sorry for the late reply. You should be able to managed all DNS entries on the hosting side from within WHM under “Edit DNS Zone”.

    Let us know if you require any further help!
