Creating Name Servers at Network Solutions

As usual our blog is here, to try and to provide the extra mile on help and for new/confused customers as  moving from Windows to Linux can be a big step, and running a website for the first time. This tutorial will take you through all the necessary steps to create custom nameservers and get your site up and running for your domain at Network Solutions.

This tutorial was written for VPSLatch customers but if it helps you too, then remember you read it here! Often the best place to start if you have an issue is Google, a simple copy and paste of most error messages will give you the solution you need in the first few, if not the first link.

VPSLatch Customers: Please note we are a Mananged VPS provider but we understand that there are times you just want to set things up yourself.  This should help if you have issues setting up nameservers at Network Solutions.

This tutorial takes you through all the necessary steps to create custom name servers at Network Solutions.

Step 1: Log into Your Network Solutions Account

If Network Solutions is the registrar for your domain name and you have purchased your domain name directly from Network Solutions, then you should have an account with them. First go to NetworkSolutions.com. To log into your account, you can either click the blue “Manage Account” button in the upper right-hand corner of their home page or click the “Log In” on the right-hand side just below the main menu.

A login page opens, and you can enter your user ID and password.

Step 2: Migrate to “My Services”

After you log into your Network Solutions account, a page entitled “Welcome to Account Manager” opens. Just under the title, a table containing your contact information is displayed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Six lists are displayed. Under the list entitled “Manage My Products & Services,” click “My Services.”

Step 3: Display Your Domain Name(s)

After you click “My Services,” a page opens entitled “Find All of Your Products Below.”

Click the blue heading “My Domain Names.”

Step 4: Migrate to “Manage Name Servers”

After you click “My Domain Names,” a page opens entitled “Domain Names.” You should see your domain name in the table. However, scroll down to the bottom of the page to the section entitled “More Domain Options.”

Of the six options displayed, click “Manage Name Servers.”

Step 5: Create Your New Name Server

After you click “Manage Name Servers,” another page entitled “Domain Names” opens with a subtitle “Manage Name Servers.”

Notice the input box under the instruction “Enter the name server you want to create or edit.” Type the name of the name server you wish to create. If your domain name is MyDomainName.com, most likely you will want to enter ns1.MyDomainName.com. Now click the “Go” button.

Step 6: Enter the IP Address for Your New Name Server

After you click “Go,” a page opens entitled “Domains.”

Most likely you have been given an IP address as part of your account at VPSLatch. If you do not remember what it is, you can find it in your initial VPS details email or in the SolusVM control panel. An IP address takes the following form:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (for example, 123.45.678.90)

Type your IP address into the box labeled “New Name Server” and then click the “Go” button.

Step 7: Confirm the Information

After you click “Go,” a page opens containing a box labeled “Confirm Changes.”

Make sure you have made no typing mistakes and then click the blue button “Save Changes.”

If you are going to create two name servers, repeat steps 5-7 using ns2.MyDomainName.com instead of ns1.MyDomainName.com.

Step 8: Log Out of Your Network Solutions Account

Congratulations! You have now successfully created your own custom nameservers to give to your customers and use for yourself.

When it comes to purchasing an online internet hosting plan, many people hesitate at the idea. Why invest in a web host plan when you can create an internet site for free anyway? Exactly what a lot of hopeful website owners out there do not know is the fact that there are lots of hosting providers who offer you great plans at discount prices
