How To… WHM Initial Setup

How To...Published July 16, 2010 at 12:55 pm 2 Comments

Congratulations on your VPS with cPanel/WHM!  You have decided to choose cPanel/WHM, and below we will walk you through the initial set up.

So first thing to do is to log into http://YOURVPSIP:2086 with the login details you used for SSH (account root and then your root password).

Now we will walk you through the initial WHM setup.

Step One; Read through the cPanel agreement and press accept.

Step Two; under Setup Networking  – The only thing you should need to change here is your contact details and then hostname if you haven’t already set this then
press next.

Step Three; under Resolvers heading -This just shows you the IP addresses available to your VPS, this information should already be known so just press next.

Step Four;  For the first field, we suggest just keeping this as BIND as it suits most people’s needs. For the second field, this is quite important, if you have not already set up custom nameservers for WHM, we suggest you do this now, if you’re not sure, please submit a support ticket with your domain registrar login details, and we’ll register the custom name servers for you. The same goes for the third field, if you do not know what you are doing here, we suggest you research, or contact our support.  You have a fully managed VPS with us; so don’t hesitate to contact us at anytime.

Step Five;  We suggest leaving everything here as is, the only thing we would have changed from default would be the second last box you can tick “Send notification when brute force user is detected” to inform you about bruit force attacks on your server then press next.

Step Six; We suggest leaving this as is and click finish.
